God Demands Purity

As we continue through the book of Acts and learn how the Holy Spirt worked through the early church believers, we can clearly see that the Holy Spirit was empowering His people to build the Kingdom. In order to walk in step with the Holy Spirts leading requires God’s followers to live a life of purity. This all seemed to be going well until we reach the fifth chapter of Acts when we learn of two people that stepped outside of this purity and were struck dead for their disobedience. Both Ananias and his wife Sapphira struggled with the sin of covetousness, greed and self glorification. In order to have what they desired they lied and took on the identity of a hypocrite. Perhaps they thought they were fooling everyone or even themselves but the reality is they weren’t fooling God. In a swift reaction to their iniquity, God executes judgement on the two and makes a chilling example to the early church. This week we learn that God demands purity in His church and we aim to explore how that is possible.
