Hidden Treasure

Oct 3, 2021

As Jesus taught, He chose to use stories, or parables.
Parables can be thought of as 'earthly stories with heavenly meaning', or stories that use normal every day things to help us understand extraordinary things about God. Many times as He taught, Jesus said, anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand, or he who has ears, let him hear. Everyone has ears, so what does our theme verse mean? We have ears to hear when we don't know Jesus' parables., but we want to understand them and live them out. Those with 'ears to hear' don't just listen to Jesus' parables, they do what He teaches through them.
This week’s parable is very short but very valuable. The Heavenly meaning is so important that Jesus teaches the same concept twice.
If we’re not careful, we might think the man and the merchant are us. But before the Lord, what do we have to purchase or earn anything at all?

Instead, we’re the treasure or the pearl!! The buyer is Jesus Christ. Selling all He had didn’t mean Jesus lost out on worldly possessions - His sacrifice was far greater. He laid down Heaven, His privileges as God, and ultimately His life, shedding His blood to purchase us as His treasure (Philippians 2:6-8; 1 Peter 1:18-19). To Him, YOU were worth it.
