God is Love
Love is perhaps one of the most misunderstood of all God’s attributes. It is often reduced to a simple emotion used to describe our devotion to an experience, thing, or person. The Bible defines love this way: “Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things” (1 Corinthians 13:4-7). God is Love, the complete embodiment of it, meaning that HIS love does not change. The truth is, God loves us, and He demonstrated His love in that while we were still sinners, Christ Jesus died for us. There is no greater love than this: that one lay down his life for his friends. Because of God’s love for us, we should willingly lay down our lives for Him and others, fulfilling the two greatest commandments—loving God with all our heart, soul, and mind, and loving others as ourselves. This week, we look to perhaps the greatest of God’s attributes: love.
