God is the Shepherd

The Bible uses vivid imagery to communicate eternal truths about God, and one of the most powerful is that of a shepherd and his sheep. While many of us may not be familiar with the life of a shepherd or the workings of a sheepfold, this imagery remains deeply relevant today. Sheep are entirely dependent on their shepherd for guidance, care, and rescue from danger—they simply cannot survive on their own. David understood this relationship intimately, having been a shepherd himself as a young boy. In Psalm 23, he described his relationship with God as that of a sheep under the loving care of a shepherd. Centuries later, Jesus identified Himself as the Good Shepherd, saying in John 10:27-28 (NASB): “My sheep listen to My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give them eternal life, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand.” The truth is, we are all like sheep in need of a Shepherd to rescue us from our sin. Jesus, as the Good Shepherd, laid down His life so that we might have life. The question is: do you believe this, and will you call Him your Shepherd? When we become part of His flock, He promises to guide us, and we can trust His voice to lead us wherever we need to go.
