Faith Draws A Line

Following the directions and orders of those in authority over us can be very challenging, but Scripture teaches that God clearly expects His followers to obey their governing authorities. You might wonder: Who are my governing authorities, and are there situations where I am permitted to disobey them? In Hebrews 11:23, we see that the Hebrews faced this dilemma. The Pharaoh of Egypt commanded all the midwives to kill every male Hebrew baby that was born. Instead of obeying Pharaoh's orders, the midwives “drew a line” by choosing to place their faith in God, who holds ultimate authority in their lives. This week, we will learn about our ultimate authority, which is God, and explore when it is acceptable to disobey those in authority over us and how we should conduct ourselves in such situations.
