God is the Comforter

Suffering and distress are experiences we all face—whether through difficult trials, the loss of someone close, or the weight of guilt from sin. Many people search for comfort in the things of this world: friends, food, experiences, adventure, social media, or even substance abuse. Yet, these sources always fall short. The Bible reminds us in 2 Corinthians 1:3-4: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” This week, we learn the important truth that God is the one who can truly comfort us. When we put our trust in Jesus, we discover that no matter the situation, He is our source of comfort. And because He comforts us, we are able to extend His comfort to others around us.
