Adults are Honest

Honesty and integrity are increasingly rare in the words and actions of those around us. In a world where it’s difficult to listen to news reports, read social media posts, or take someone at their word without some doubt about the truth, James delivers a clear challenge to followers: “Let your yes be yes and your no be no.” The problem of truthfulness has long existed because of sin, but Jesus calls His followers to a higher standard—one that reflects His own character. As His people, we are to imitate Him, and that means our speech must be consistently truthful. This week, we will learn that maturity is highly contingent on honesty.
