Opportunities For The Gospel

Colossians 4:2-6 reminds us that our marriage is not only about personal growth and unity, but also about participating together in God’s mission to be disciples that make disciples, by representing His sacrificial love for His people. We are called to live with intentionality in both our prayer lives and our witness. As couples grow closer to God together, they should begin to see their lives through a missional lens, and pray for God to open doors for the gospel through their home, relationships, and daily interactions.

Discussion Questions:

Icebreaker: What’s one “door” (opportunity or experience) you’d love to walk through together as a couple someday?

1.   What does it look like for you as a couple to be devoted to prayer, not just occasional? What tends to get in the way?

2.   How can “keeping alert in prayer with an attitude of thanksgiving” shape your awareness of gospel opportunities around you?

3.   Who are the specific people or relationships God may be calling your marriage to reach together? What might it look like for your lives/marriage to become part of that open door?

4.   How comfortable are you as a couple in talking about your faith with others? Where do you feel unsure? What would help you grow in clarity and confidence in sharing the gospel message?

5.   Where might you be missing opportunities to share the gospel because of busyness or distraction? What would “making best use of the time” look like for you and your spouse this week?

6.   What is one area of your marriage where your words are marked more by criticism? How can your conversations with one another reflect both grace and truth in a way that is more Christlike?
