COMMUNION - Looking forward to Christ’s return

SCRIPTURES
1 Corinthians 11:26 | For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are announcing the Lord’s death until he comes again.

John 6:47-59 | “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes has eternal life.  Yes, I am the bread of life!  Your ancestors ate manna in the wilderness, but they all died. Anyone who eats the bread from heaven, however, will never die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live forever; and this bread, which I will offer so the world may live, is my flesh.” Then the people began arguing with each other about what he meant. “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” they asked. So Jesus said again, “I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you cannot have eternal life within you. But anyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise that person at the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Anyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him.  I live because of the living Father who sent me; in the same way, anyone who feeds on me will live because of me.  I am the true bread that came down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will not die as your ancestors did (even though they ate the manna) but will live forever.” He said these things while he was teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum.

Hebrews 9:27-28 | And just as each person is destined to die once and after that comes judgment, so also Christ was offered once for all time as a sacrifice to take away the sins of many people. He will come again, not to deal with our sins, but to bring salvation to all who are eagerly waiting for him.

DISCUSSION
  1. Communion reminds us that Jesus died to pay for our sins, but also that He will do what in the future?
  2. Who will Jesus return for?
  3. What will happen to those who have not put their faith (trust) in Jesus?
  4. Are you eagerly (excitedly) waiting for Jesus’ return in Hebrews 9:28? Why or why not?
  5. No one knows when Jesus will return except for God the Father. If Jesus returned today, how sure are you that He would be coming for you?
  6. If Jesus returned today, who do you know who would not return to Heaven with Jesus? What can you do about this?
