SIN - Results in death

Romans 6:23 | For the wages (punishment) of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.

1. What is the punishment of sin?

  • What is physical death? 
  • How is death, sickness, disease, pain, and hurt all related to sin? 
  • What is spiritual death? [Think back to the spiritual death of Adam and Eve and how people today feel this too]

Isaiah 59:2 | It’s your sins that have cut you off from God. Because of your sins, he has turned away and will not listen anymore.

1. When you sin, do you feel closer or farther from God? In what ways? 
2. When you feel far from God, He hasn’t actually moved! How can you be close to Him (again)?

2 Thessalonians 1:7b-9 | He will come with his mighty angels, in flaming fire, bringing judgment on those who don’t know God and on those who refuse to obey the Good News of our Lord Jesus. They will be punished with eternal destruction, forever separated from the Lord and from his glorious power.

1. If someone doesn’t turn to God for forgiveness for their sin (possible because of Jesus) before they die, what is the consequence? 
2. Even people choosing to live on sin here on Earth aren’t fully separated from God and His power. God is still working around them and drawing them to Himself. How will full and forever separation from God’s presence and power be different?
