BIBLE: Is Authoritative Pt 1

SCRIPTURES
Psalm 119:9-16
| How can a young person stay pure? By obeying your word. I have tried hard to find you— don’t let me wander from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. I praise you, O Lord; teach me your decrees. I have recited aloud all the regulations you have given us. I have rejoiced in your laws as much as in riches. I will study your commandments and reflect on your ways. I will delight in your decrees and not forget your word.

Hebrews 4:12 | For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.

DISCUSSION
  1. According to Psalm 119, how can a person stay pure, or away from sin?
  2. According to Hebrews 4, the Bible is alive and powerful. Because of this, it can show us where our thoughts and desires need to change.
  • What thoughts do you have that need to change according to God’s Word?
  • What desires (wants) do you have that need to change according to God’s Word?
3. Psalm 119 gives us instructions for letting God’s Word change and guide us. What are they?
  • Do you hide God’s Word in your heart? How?
  • Do you study God’s Word? How? How is studying different than reading?
  • Do you reflect on God’s Word? How? When?
4. God’s Word can be convicting and can require hard work. Even so, it is something  we can delight in. Why is this?
