GOD: HOLY SPIRIT - Guides righteousness

SCRIPTURES
Ezekiel 36:27 | And I will put my Spirit in you so that you will follow my decrees and be careful to obey my regulations.

Ephesians 4:30 | And do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live.
Remember, he has identified you as his own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption.

Galatians 5:16-18 | So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions. But when you are directed by the Spirit, you are not under obligation to the law of Moses.

Romans 8:9-14 | But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them do not belong to him at all.) And Christ lives within you, so even though your body will die because of sin, the Spirit gives you life because you have been made right with God. The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you. Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do. For if you live by its dictates, you will die. But if through the power of the Spirit you put to death the deeds of your sinful nature, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.

DISCUSSION
  1. God gives us the Holy Spirit so we will will follow and obey Him. What are some things God wants us to do? Have you been obeying (and listening to the Holy Spirit)?
  2. What would living in a way that brings sorrow or sadness to the Holy Spirit look like?
  3. The Holy Spirit wants us to do right but our sinful nature wants to do the opposite. How have you felt this war inside of you? What can you do when you know what is right but feel yourself really wanting to do wrong instead?
  4. The same Holy Spirit that had the power to raise Jesus from the dead lives in you. What does this mean to you?
  5. When does your sinful nature win out over the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit is stronger than sin, so why does this happen?
  6. What does it mean to “put your sinful nature to death” (Romans 10:13). How are you doing this in your own life?
