GOD: The trinity (3 in 1)

It’s time to continue deepening our roots as we strengthen our faith by understanding the Biblical Essentials - the absolutely necessary doctrines or beliefs for God’s followers. Our theme verse reminds us that this is what is required for those who have accepted Jesus as Lord.

Colossians 2:6-7 | And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on Him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.

Part of growing as God’s followers, is understanding who He is. We can dig into God’s Inspired, Inerrant, Infallible, and Authoritative Word to get to know Him better. This week, we’ll see that God is perfect, loving, creator, and three-in-one (Trinity). We’ll also see His omnipotent (all-powerful), omniscient (all-knowing), and omnipresent (all-present) nature. Stick with us all week to better understand Essential #2  - God the Father.

 Essential #1 -
The Bible is Inspired (authored by God), Inerrant (free from errors), Infallible (will not fail/is trustworthy), and Authoritative (our ultimate guide).

 Essential #2 -
God is the perfect, loving Creator who is three-in-one: Father, Son, and Spirit. He is all powerful, all knowing, and all present.

SCRIPTURES
Matthew 3:16-17 |
After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.”

1 Peter 1:2 | God the Father knew you and chose you long ago, and his Spirit has made you holy. As a result, you have obeyed him and have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ. May God give you more and more grace and peace.

2 Corinthians 13:14 | May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

DISCUSSION
  1. What are the three parts of the Trinity (the 3-in-1 God) that we see in Matthew 3?
  2. In 1st Peter, we see the different roles or jobs of the Trinity.
    • What roles of God are outlined here?
    • What role of the Spirit?
    • What role of Jesus, the Son?
  3. 2nd Corinthians 13:14 shows us different characteristics of the Trinity.
    • What word is linked to God the Father?
    • What word is linked to Jesus, the Son?
    • What word is linked to the Holy Spirit?
  4. In your own words, how are the three parts of the Trinity the same? How are they different?
  5. Which part of the Trinity do you feel like you understand the most? Which part do you understanding the least?
