GOD: HOLY SPIRIT - Convicts

SCRIPTURES
John 16:6-15 |
And when he comes, he will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment. The world’s sin is that it refuses to believe in me. Righteousness is available because I go to the Father, and you will see me no more. Judgment will come because the ruler of this world has already been judged. “There is so much more I want to tell you, but you can’t bear it now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me. All that belongs to the Father is mine; this is why I said, ‘The Spirit will tell you whatever he receives from me.’

DISCUSSION
1.  John 16:6 explains three main jobs of the Holy Spirit.
A. The Holy Spirit convicts of sin.
  • What does it mean to feel convicted when you sin?
  • What do you feel like when you feel convicted?
  • What should you do when you feel convicted?
  • Why does the Holy Spirit in you not want you to sin?
B. The Holy Spirit convicts of righteousness (doing right).
  • The Holy Spirit also feels strongly about what is right. Why is this?
  • How do you feel the Holy Spirit when He is convicting you to do what is right?
  • How do you feel when you obey the Holy Spirit?
  • How do you feel when you disobey the Holy Spirit?
C. The Holy Spirit convicts about the coming judgement (that Jesus will return).
  • What is important about Jesus’ return?
  • Do you feel a strong conviction about Jesus’ return? What do you do because of that conviction.
2. If someone doesn’t feel convicted about sin, doing right, or Jesus’ return, do they have the Holy Spirit? If they do and they are ignoring Him, what might be the consequences?
