ESSENTIALS: Not worldly philosophies

SCRIPTURES
Colossians 2:6-8 | And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness. Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ.

2 Timothy 4:3-4  | For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear. They will reject the truth and chase after myths.  


DISCUSSION

1. If we don’t stay connected to the essentials of God’s Word, we might get distracted with worldly philosophies/beliefs. What are some things the world believes that don’t line up with the Bible?
2. What are some worldly beliefs you’ve chosen to follow (or Biblical truths that you’ve ignored)?
3. Why do people choose to go their own way instead of God’s way?
4. If God has shown you any areas you’re going your own way instead of His, what will you do to change that?
