ON THE MOVE - Jesus in Egypt

SCIPTURES
Hosea 11:1 | “When Israel was a child, I loved him, and I called my son out of Egypt.”

Matthew 2:13-15  & 19-20 | After the wise men were gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up! Flee to Egypt with the child and his mother,” the angel said. “Stay there until I tell you to return, because Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.” That night Joseph left for Egypt with the child and Mary, his mother, and they stayed there until Herod’s death. This fulfilled what the Lord had spoken through the prophet: “I called my Son out of Egypt.” When Herod died, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt.“Get up!” the angel said. “Take the child and his mother back to the land of Israel, because those who were trying to kill the child are dead.”


DISCUSSION

1. Hosea was a prophet over 700 years before Jesus was born. Where did He prophesy Jesus would come out of?
2. Why did Mary and Joseph take Jesus to Egypt?
3. Who else did God call out of Egypt?
4. When the Israelites came out of Egypt, what was God rescuing them from?
5. What rescue does Jesus provide for all who put their faith in Him? What are we  set free from?
